Using Charbroil TEC Grill As Smoker

I had this crazy idea the other day when I was fixing up a small slab of ribs and some chicken wings, why don’t I try to use the Charbroil TEC grill as a smoker? Unfortunately the grill doesn’t actually come with more than an assembly menu but I figured if I took some mesquite wood chips, soaked them in water, and then put them on the ceramic TEC grill plate on some reasonably low temperature then it should smoke pretty nicely huh?

Well, while I have to tweak with it a little (I ran the grill far too hot), it certainly worked out relatively well for a novice like myself. You can’t really do this with a propane grill because the chips just fall down and into oblivion but it certainly worked well on the flat surface of the plate. There is enough room such that you can load up some chips on the plate and still have some room for meat to the right.

If there are folks out there looking for pictures and a review, I’ll try to get that all put together tonight for you and out the door maybe this weekend or early next week.
