Tip for Heavy Users: Keep a Spare LP Tank Ready to Go
Grilled on May 14th, 2007 in Grilling TipsNothing’s more frustrating than when you’re grilling for a large group and your propane tank goes belly up. Your hungry crowd is left staring at tepid hot dogs while you rush out to get a refill.
Sure you can get one of those magnetic fuel level gauges, but they’re not as precise as they could be. (And besides: how often do you remember to check it?)
If you’re serious about grilling, and you can afford it, an easy way to prevent LP emergencies is to keep a spare tank on hand. Yes, you’ll have to spring for a second canister, but if you’re like me
(grill a lot, not as attentive to maintenance as you should be), it can be a life saver.
Important: The key to making this tip work is to actually fill each tank as you drain it. It doesn’t do any good to have two tanks if you’re just going to run them both our of fuel.
