Smokenator 1000 Review, Part 1
Grilled on October 9th, 2006 in AccessoriesDon, the or one of the men behind the Smokenator 1000, was kind enough to send me one of their Smokenator 1000s for me to try and write about and write I will. First off, the Smokenator comes with a whole bunch of documentation that only a true smoker would be able to fully understand and appreciate. Don has done his homework with his product and even has tables that will fully explain, in detail, how hot the grill will get, how long the coals will burn, depending on the configuration of the vents. I’m by no means a smokemaster and while much of the text in the auxiliary instructions was above my head, the basic instructions were easy to understand and I was easily underway in moments.
Listen, the concept of smoking is simple, you burn wood and slow cook meat. The smokenator turns your regular Weber grill into a smoker for a mere thirty bucks. You don’t need a separate smoker if you have the smokenator. Another surprising characteristic of the Smokenator was its heft. It’s a machined piece of metal that feels like it’s worth the money you pay for it.
I’ll write more about using the Smokenator in Part 2.
Disclaimer: I contacted Don and he sent me a Smokenator in order for me to review, I took no other compensation for this review.

Where’s the second half of the review?!? Inquiring minds would like to know. It is barbecue season after all.
I was looking into getting one of these. We already have a big weber kettle (bought at a garage sale) and a little smokey joe, and I don’t want to get a dedicated smoker.
Thanks Him, I totally forgot, it’s in the drafts and will be up shortly. As a quick tip, if you want a smoker but don’t want to buy a dedicated one, this one does a great job. It’s essentially machined to separate the heating elements from the meat so it doesn’t cook them as much and a lot of the energy is directed at the wood. It’s cheap so I’d recommend getting it and just trying it out.
