How Do Infrared Grills Work?

Do infrared grills have a huge infrared laser inside them that direct a focus beam of photos that cooks your food in a jiffy? That’s actually what I thought before I started reading about them (okay, only half kidding). What actually happens is you take a conventional gas burner and focus the flame tightly and onto a ceramic plate. The ceramic plate has thousands of microscopically tiny holes in it that converts that flame into infrared heat! Temperatures can reach up to seven hundred degrees Fahrenheit! That will char a steak on the outside while leaving it rare in the middle.

How much does an infrared grill cost? It’ll run you low to mid four figures to cook with the power of infrared. Is it worth it? I have no idea… I’ve never seen an infrared grill let along tasted something cooked on it.

Is there an advantage to getting 700 degrees F? Well if you love your steaks rarer than rare and hate it when it’s only pink (and not red), then the 700 degrees will fit your bill nicely. However, is low to mid four figures within your budget for that pleasure?
