Grilling Tip: Don’t Cook Thoroughly On Grill
Grilled on March 4th, 2008 in Grilling TipsWoah! Did I just recommend that you don’t cook food thoroughly on the grill!? Hold your horses, I did just say that in the title but let me clarify and explain why I wrote that. When you cook something on the grill, you’re heating it up right? When you pull something off the grill, it’s still hot and the cooking action is still going on. So the cooking process doesn’t stop immediately after you take something off the grill because it’s still hot, that’s why I gave the tip that you shouldn’t cook thoroughly on the grill. Cook it almost all the way and remove your food from the grill. Since you’ll want some foods to rest, such as steaks and burgers in order to collect the juices, it gives them ample time to cook the rest of the way through.
Use your judgment of course! You don’t want to take something that’s seriously undercooked and expect it to finish sitting on a plate! You’ll find a happy point where the meat is almost done (medium rare when you want medium, rare when you want medium rare, etc.) and that will just take some experience.
