Grilling Pizza Is Fun!

Pizza Is Delicious
The other day I was over at a friend’s place for some grilled pizza. That’s right, we grilled homemade pizza pies atop of ceramic plates designed especially for the purpose and they were delicious. It was the first time I’d ever grilled pizza so I’m going to share with you some tips that I picked up (many apply to oven baking pizza as well) in case you’ve ever been tempted to do this sort of thing (you should!).

  • You must have a ceramic plate, without it you will not be able to grill the pizza.
  • And oil up the plate, you don’t want that sticky pizza dough to become permanently attached to the plate.
  • Be sure to pre-cook toppings that need to be pre-cooked, such as meats like sausage and chicken. Vegetables like onions also need to be a little pre-cooked as well since the pizza will only be on the grill for around 5-10 minutes.
  • Be sure to check the temperature of the grill and the ceramic plates, you don’t want it to be sizzling hot but somewhere in the neighborhood of two hundred fifty to three hundred degrees. As you do this more often, you’ll start to understand what temperature works best for your dough.
  • If it’s your first pizza, it’s okay to check periodically so that you don’t ruin your first pizza. The grill gets hot and cold really quickly so be cognizant of that.
  • Invite friends over, it’s a lot more fun grilling 10 pizzas than 1.
