Don’t Buy A Cheap Propane Grill
Grilled on December 12th, 2006 in GeneralIt’s been a while since I’ve written something, for that I apologize - I haven’t been grilling much since it’s only ten degrees outside and my propane tank is on empty, so today I’m just going to put out something a little philosophical: Don’t buy a cheap grill.
I’m not saying run out and get yourself a sick infrared TEC grill (I’m still regretting not being able to go check out Char-Broil’s new line of TEC grills), but don’t get a $100 cheapie from Home Depot where you get about a square foot of grill space, crappy grill grates, and one lousy burner. A TEC grill has to be something you work up to and in order for you to appreciate infrared heat going through porcelain you will have to start with something a little less grand. For me, that was a Char-Broil grill that cost me in the neighborhood of two hundred and fifty dollars, had nice heavy grates, four burners, and a decent cover.
Now, before you start jumping on me for all the Char-Broil grill love that I’ve been writing about, I wanted to say that no one is paying me to write anything and I only write so much about Char-Broil because I have one. You’ll also read some about Weber grills if I ever go back to charcoal.
So, why a grill for two fifty when you can buy an el cheapo propane grill for less than a hundred? It’s because the cheaper grills are likely not as sturdy (which means they will weaken with age and you never want a grill to fall apart on you), won’t have as much cooking space, and probably won’t retain heat very well (which means you need more propane which means more money).
Don’t get a cheap grill! Treat yourself!
