Charbroil’s The Big Easy

Charbroil is having their annual product announcement event at Bryant Park this Thursday in New York City and they’ll be debuting The Big Easy (here’s a cool virtual tour), an oil-free turkey fryer that claims to cook most cuts of meat in around 8 - 10 minutes per pound (far quicker than a conventional oven). The fryer will rely on infrared technology and features the same outside-in cooking of a conventional oven with the speed of oil. And since you aren’t dipping the turkey in oil, you can use all the tricks you use in the oven like using a rub and injecting flavor (try to inject juices in oil and you’ll have yourself a messy accident).

Now, that’s all the brochure type stuff that all sounds plausible… but will the product deliver? I will be able to check it out since Charbroil will be sending me one of these bad boys in the near future and I’ll let you know how it goes! I’ll give it a couple runs before the Big Show - Thanksgiving. For the last three years we’ve hosted Thanksgiving dinner for our families, this time they get to see it done Charbroil style.

Now, you might be wondering if I might be biased to say only good things about Charbroil because they send me all this nice stuff (a genuine concern) but that’s not the case. They offered to do this after I blogged about the TEC grill mishap I experienced and the shearing screws issue. What they want is my honest feedback, as I’ve given, and I think they’ve shown they appreciate that by continuing to talk to me after I mentioned those problems. (Problems happen to everyone and every company, it’s how you handle it that separates the good companies from the bad)
